Shriya (B-)

Plain in Plaid. Now, thats unusual.

Usually, the Scottish attire can hardly be termed as plain, but sadly that is just what Shriya is looking here. There is nothing essentially wrong with this dress, but still it doesn't quite click. I'm thinking it's the same patterned belt. Had it been a solid big black belt, it would have added some definition to the look and provide the much needed contrast.

Also, her shoes are downright hideous! The bulky straps don't go with the look at all! But I must say, this is a huge improvement from last time. At least she's tried something different this time.

Surya and Jyothika - South Filmfare Awards 2008 (B- and D+)

Here is one of Kollywood's (Tamil cinema) most famous couples - Surya and Jyothika. Let us start with Surya, coz he's looking oh-so-cool!

I love his shirt, especially the print at the bottom. Usually guys end up looking like a complete doofus in print shirts, but Surya has managed to remain classy. The jeans also complement the shirt well.

I'm loving his chain but he loses marks because of the belt. It is unsightly.

All in all he manages to look cool and casually classy.

His wife Jyothika on the other hand looks just the opposite. You'd think some of his fashion sense would rub off on her.But no, she is determined to make the same mistakes all the married south actresses make. I don't understand why do they stop caring about their style once they are married. I mean, they are still celebrities!

Here, a nice baby doll top would look cute on her and would also hide her weight. Also dahling, throw out everything you have on right now.You can keep the clutch, though, and please jazz up your hair a bit!

Shruti Hassan (B+)

This girl seems to know her way around fashion. I am loving the whole image she is setting out with her clothes. Usually, gals of her age are found in dresses or other regular fashionable wear. But Shruti seems a class apart.

She's got this very punky, slightly gothic and rockstar style which is fabulous coz she works it correctly.

Here, Shruti is performing at her rock show and is looking absolutely perfect for the occasion. I am loving the frills around her waist. They give her a feminine look. yet she retains her punky flavour with the accessories.

Very smart. Very smart, indeed! My only complaint is with her makeup. Its not definitive. Ah well! Maybe next time.

Allu Arjun (B+)

After 22 posts and 18 days, I am reviewing a male star. Phew! Either the gentlemen are lying low or have displayed such worthless style that was not even fit for reviews. I'm leaning towards the latter...lol.

Allu Arjun is not what you would call a conventional fashionable star, but I admire him for one thing. He is constantly trying out new trends and styles. Sometimes he falters but sometimes works wonders.

This time he is somewhere in between. The otherwise bland jacket n shirt combo is made interesting by the scarf. Not many men prefer to wear scarves but I personally think they look fabulous, especially the long thin ones like here.

Here's hoping Arjun is able to set standards for the other stars.

Meera Chopra (B-)

There is nothing really wrong with Meera Chopra's look. The only concern I have is with her footwear.

Time and time again I repeat that one area where most of these ladies go wrong is with the choice of footwear for dresses and totally kill the look. Ladies, please and I mean it, please do not wear chappals. You can wear strappy sandals, peep-toes, wedges, T-strap, anything...but chappals. Restrict their use to Indian wear and you will be good.

Nayantara ( B+)

Dahling, dun worry. You did good, well almost, but still good. So please wipe that horrible expression off your face.

The red hot saree is simple and highly effective. It is fiery and she looks like a hot mirchi!

She has sensibly avoided much jewellery although I wish she would chuck those horrible carrot like earrings. The make up with the highly defined eyes compliments the look well. Many a times, gals wear a matching red lipstick which turns the whole look hooker-ish. Thankfully, she seems to be aware of that fact.

If not for the fugly earrings and her surly expression she would have gotten an A.

Anushka ( B-)

It's nice to see that our stars are opening up to formal wear. I admire Anushka for that, but I wish she had choosen it a little more carefully.

Essentially, there is nothing wrong with her dress. Only its just way too plain. If you put an ID card around her neck, she would look like an ordinary executive.
She could have jazzed up the outfit by donning a black belt or by changing the color of her skirt. Also I hate her watch. Its very grandmotherly and does not go with the look at all.

Just some minor alterations would make her look like the star she is.

Nitin (B+)

Whew!!!

After seeing the recent stomach-hurling looks of other stars, Nitin's style certainly comes as a pleasant surprise.

The chocolate brown colored jacket is fab ( chocolate brown for the chocolate hero...lol ). The shirt, although not very partyish, does complement the jacket well. The belt also seems well in place.

But the jeans definitely need some re-thinking.

Ah Well! We shall mercifully ignore that for the decent attempt made by Nitin works on the whole. He does look really sweet and simple doesn't he ?

P.S :- Good news gals. Seems like even after acquiring six-pack abs he still retains his sweet innocent charm. Well, looks like he's got the whole package ;)

Parvati Melton Jalsa Audio (B-)

This gal is veryyy beautiful. She has the ability to make an ordinary dress remarkable.

The simple black dress is neat and elegant and am happy that for once an actress wore an appropriate outfit without going over the top or looking like a regular maid.

I like the cut and length of the dress and the big black belt is also very trendy and highlights her thin figure.

But the purse hanging on a chain from the bracelet is an eyesore and a complete no-no. It is absolutely fugly and does not go with the look at all. Infact, I dont think that purse will go with any outfit. Parvati honey, I know you are trying to make a statement with it but it is butt ugly and I insist you chuck it in the dustbin at the first chance.

This look is badly in need of some color. A red, gold, or any other colored clutch would look absolutely fantastic.
Ladies, note, the black dress with colored clutch is an amazing look but keep the accessories minimal since the clutch makes enough statement.

Anyway, I have taken off marks for the purse, else, she looks very pretty.

Ileana Jalsa Audio ( B-)

This is a mixed review. While Ileana has tried out fashion trends she falls short in many places.

First the positives. The corset top is beautiful and so is her hair and makeup. A special mention about the lipstick --- keeping one's makeup minimal and enhancing one's face with a bright colored lipstick is a fabulous style...so kudos to her for that. The bracelet thing she wore on her right hand is also very good.

Although I appreciate her for trying the corset-jeans style she has a huge disadvantage. Her HIPS!!!
She has huge hips on both sides and a corset is supposed to enhance your waist and therefore is only recommended for people with perfectly thin waists. A inch of fat and you look a million pounds heavy. Thats just what has happened here.

And also the choice of jeans for this style is all wrong. The rest of the accessories also do nothing for the outfit.

If done properly, this style can do wonders. But unfortunately, it is not for people with heavy hips like Ileana.

Still her hair and makeup are flawless and she does look pretty at the face :)

Shreya Sivaji Function ( B+)

Okie I'm gonna start with one of my favorite actresses Shriya Saran. :)

Here is the controversial dress from Sivaji - The Boss 100 days function...

The light colored dress with the slightly darker sash is complemented well with matching dark shoes and bag. Notice that she matched the shoes and bag not to her dress but to her sash color. Very nice!

She added a bit of color through her pink earrings...kudos...and although the choice of footwear is unconventional for a dress (usually sandals are the way to go), they somehow match the dress and keep it together.

All in all full marks to Shreya for making a normally boring dress remarkable :)

P.S :- Although it is a movie function and she is the star we here at Tollywood Fashion Police feel that keeping in mind the age of the guests ( i mean she was the only young thing in a 5 mile radius!!!) she could have opted for a more appropriate dress. Still the whole hue and cry that followed was totally unnecessary...dontcha think???
